Its amino acid sequence is D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH?. This peptide features unique mitochondria-targeting properties. It can selectively bind to cardiolipin on the inner mitochondrial membrane, stabilize mitochondrial membrane structure, reduce reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation, alleviate oxidative damage and maintain normal mitochondrial energy metabolism.
